Expert said that Vitamin B12 deficiency is not responsible for eye twitching.
According to the expert, when people are under extreme stress or are not able to sleep properly at night, their eyes start twitching.
An eye twitching is an involuntary blinking of the eyelid and this can happen many times per day. The most common type of eye twitching is myokymia and this can happen to most people at some point. Dr Richa Pyare, an eye surgeon at Shroff Eye Centre has told more about this in an interview with News18 Hindi.
Dr Richa Pyare said that myokymia i.e. eye twitching is not a serious problem and a lot of misinformation has spread regarding this problem. According to the doctor, when people are under extreme stress or are not able to sleep properly at night, their eyes start twitching. This problem is exacerbated by an excessive intake of caffeine-related beverages like tea, coffee etc.
Dr Richa added that there is no need to worry about this problem as the eyes return to their normal state after blinking. She clarified that blinking doesn’t imply any health ailment with the eyes. If the eyes are twitching continuously then it may be due to calcium deficiency or some other health issue in the body. She, however, said that there is no chance of other major health issues.
Many people read a lot of false information related to eye twitching on news websites where it has been claimed that this is a disease. On one news website, it was even misinformed that this is a fatal disease while another went on to inform that the deficiency of Vitamin B12 deficiency causes eye twitching.
Dr Richa has however rubbished these claims and said that lack of Vitamin B12 is not responsible for this thing. According to her, in some rare cases, many other reasons are responsible for this but this is not very dangerous. She added that if someone is suffering from this problem continuously then they should consult a doctor once.
