Most of us know about Astral Pipes, as these pipes are the leading product in the Indian plumbing market. It is produced by the company Astral Limited which also manufactures adhesives, bathware and paints. But now, everyone knows the backstory of the man who built the company from scratch, Sandeep Engineer.
Sandeep is one of those Indian industrialists who, despite having no family connection with business, have achieved tremendous success in the business world. He is currently listed among the top 100 richest Indians by Forbes. Sandeep Engineer has a net worth of Rs 27,893 crore, according to Forbes.
He worked in Cadila Lab for about two and a half years after completing his education. Later, he decided to start his firm after quitting his job. In 1981, he established his first company. He accepted the distribution contract for flavoured isabgol. However, his initial attempt to succeed as a businessman was a complete failure. The retailers he sold to wanted Sandeep to give them the goods on loan. The result was that he had to close down his business with a loss of Rs 5,000, a big amount in the early 80s.
Sandeep Engineer did not give up on his dream of being a businessman despite suffering a crushing setback in his first effort. He established Shree Chemicals in 1987 and began producing active medicinal components as the chairman of Cadila Healthcare Pankaj Patel’s recommendation. He had discussed taking the complete product with Cadila. But because the things were of poor quality, Cadila did not pick up all of them. Sandeep was forced to halt manufacturing as a result.
Then, to create more compounds and higher-quality products, he established Care Chemicals. Sandeep finally started making profits. He sold off this company about five years ago. Sandeep Engineer reached amazing heights in life thanks to his CPVC pipe company. Although the products were high in demand in the US, it was not produced in India before 1998. Sandeep spotted a potential opportunity in the CPVC pipe industry and established Astral Polytechnic in 1998 to produce CPVC pipes in India.
By appointing Salman Khan as the brand ambassador of the company and sponsoring the Dabangg series of films, the brand Astral has become known in every household.
