This year, Shani Amavasya is set to be celebrated on Saturday, October 14. On this auspicious day, believers are advised to observe certain measures related to Lord Shani. Now, Unnao astrologer Pandit Rishikant Mishra Shastri has shared his advice on what to do on this day to invite happiness and prosperity into your life.
According to beliefs, Shani Amavasya occurs several times a year. On this day, Lord Shani, the god of justice, is worshipped. It is believed that the blessings of Lord Shani can usher in happiness, good fortune and prosperity in one’s life.
Scriptures mention Lord Shani as the brother of Yamraj and Bhadra. As the god of justice, he gives rewards based on one’s deeds. Pandit Rishikant Mishra Shastri shed light on the crucial measures to be undertaken on this day to appease Lord Shani.
Offering worship to a black cow on this day holds great significance, Pandit Shastri said. Provide the cow with eight boondi laddus, then circumambulate around it seven times. Subsequently, gently tap the cow’s tail on your head eight times, he added. Observing these rituals will invite the blessings of Lord Shani, bringing in good luck and alleviating the problems in your life.
To further please Lord Shani, you can engage in the coconut ritual, Pandit Rishikant Mishra Shastri added. Gather eleven coconuts, 400 grams of black and white sesame seeds, nine metal nails and eight handfuls each of barley, black gram and black coal. Bundle these items together in a black cloth. In the evening, rotate it seven times from head to toe while facing east on the banks of a river. After completing the ritual, release the objects one by one into the flowing water. Alternatively, they can be placed in Lord Shani’s temple.
On the day preceding Shani Amavasya, place black urad dal on your bedside before retiring for the night. Ensure it is enclosed in a black cloth and make sure to sleep alone. The following day, leave this bundle in Lord Shani’s temple.
