According to astrology, there are some days in the year when one should avoid making roti at home. Pandit Rishikant Mishra Shastri speaking with News18, has shared five occasions when making roti at home should be avoided.

Nag Panchami: According to the astrologer, it is not considered auspicious to use a frying pan on Nag Panchami as it is a replica of the snake’s hood. Therefore, if, one makes roti on the day of Nag Panchami, it can have a bad effect on the family like financial issues. However, eating puri and halwa is considered good on this day.

Sharad Purnima: It is inauspicious to make roti at home even on the day of Sharad Purnima, Pandit Rishikant Mishra said. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi of wealth had appeared on the day of Sharad Purnima, hence there is a ritual of making Kheer-Puri on the day of Sharad Purnima. On this day, Kheer is prepared in the evening and kept in the moonlight and it is consumed as Prasad the next morning.

Sheetala Ashtami: Making fresh rotis at home should be avoided on the occasion of Sheetala Ashtami. It is believed that on this day there is a tradition of offering stale food to Shitala Mata. After offering food to the goddess, one should consume only stale food. This is the reason why one should avoid making roti at home.

Diwali: According to mythological beliefs, there are some special rituals and customs related to food and festivals, which people also follow. Diwali is also one of these. It is believed that making roti on this day is a sign of inauspicious because on this day Hindus worship Goddess Lakshmi. Therefore, there is a tradition of making special food items on this day.

On death: In the Hindu scriptures, it is said that if a family member dies in a household, then the Indian bread should not be cooked in the house. It is believed that rotis should be made at home only after the thirteenth-day mourning ritual also known as Tehrvi.
