A few exercises in the gym often put too much stress on the body and can cause a variety of effects. A heart attack or severe palpitations while exercising or running can be caused by pre-existing heart disease. Heart patients must not engage themselves in heavy workouts unless advised by the doctor. It can result in mild attack or sometimes death. Dr Sudhir Kumar, who works as a neurologist at Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad has listed down some medical tests which a person must do before joining the gym.

Blood Pressure Test: Dr Sudhir Kumar recommends a blood pressure test before joining the gym. There are several machines which are available in the market to measure your blood pressure. The healthy blood pressure must be around 130/80.

Sugar Test: You must check your sugar level too. A pre-meal blood sugar level of 100mg/dl will ensure that you are not affected by diabetes. If your blood sugar level is on some day then you can estimate the average blood sugar level with the help of the hb1ac test. In this, the average level should not exceed 5.6mg/dl. Along with this, lipid profile, good cholesterol, bad cholesterol and triglycerides should also be monitored.

ECG: You must measure the rhythm of your heartbeat before joining the gym. It can be detected by the ECG test. It scans the heart and helps detect hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. If ignored, then they can lead to sudden heart attacks. It is often suggested by health experts to have an ECG test before continuing heavy workouts.
