Shooji Sircar dedicates the wins of Sardar Udham at the 69th National Film Awards to Irrfan Khan.

Shoojit Sircar is currently celebrating the huge win of his movie Sardar Udham at the 69th National Film Awards. The film won 5 awards and reacting to the win, the filmmaker dedicated this award to the late Irrfan Khan.

In a conversation with News18, Shoojit Sircar reacted to Sardar Udham winning 5 National Awards and said, “Sardar Udham has received five National Film Awards and I cannot ask for more. When a cinematographer, audiographer, art director, and costume designer are appreciated and acknowledged, it just proves that cinema is a collaborative art. It is a collaboration of many minds who share the same vision for a film. I am just happy for the entire team.”

He further revealed that the Sardar Udham team wants to dedicate this achievement to Irrfan Khan and said, “Yes, Vicky Kaushal is in London. As soon as he got the news, he called me. I am sitting with Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar (producers of the film) and we are dedicating this award to Irrfan Khan. I haven’t had the time to speak to Sutupa (Sikdar, Irrfan’s wife) as I am getting many calls but I will soon speak to her.”

Not many people know that Irrfan Khan was the original choice for playing Sardar Udham in the movie. However, due to his untimely demise, Vicky Kaushal was then chosen to play the role.

Vicky Kaushal also expressed gratitude on being a part of the film and congratulated the team for winning 5 awards at the 69th National Film Festival. The film won the Best Hindi Film award as well as the awards for Best Cinematography (Avik Mukhopadhyay), Best Audiography (Sinoy Joseph), Best Production Design (Dmitrii Malich and Mansi Dhruv Mehta), and Best Costume Design (Veera Kapur Ee).

Sardar Udham is a historical drama based on Indian revolutionary Udham Singh who seeks revenge on Michael O’Dwyer, Punjab’s lieutenant governor, by assassinating him after his troops cruelly kill hundreds of people in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Produced by Shoojit Sircar, Ronnie Lahiri, and Sheel Kumar, the movie received a positive response from the audience.
