Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri said that changes in Akshay Kumar’s character in OMG 2 is not justified.
Bollywood director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, in his recent interview, reacted to the changes made by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in Akshay Kumar’s film OMG 2 and said it is not ‘justified’.
While speaking to India.com, the filmmaker said talked about Akshay’s character which is now changed to the messenger of the Hindu God. Earlier, the actor was playing Lord Shiva in the film. While reacting to it, Vivek said, “No, it is not justified. I don’t agree with that. First of all, even though I am a part of CBFC but I am totally against it. CBFC shouldn’t be pressurised to do anything. Whatever is happening, it’s happening because of social and religious pressures. Everybody has understood that CBFC is a vulnerable body, you put pressure on it, and they will make these changes. I don’t understand why a film should get so many cuts – 27 cuts. Who are you to decide that?”
He further added, “What is the intention of the filmmaker? If the intention is not bad, let it go. People are intelligent. Let the audience watch it and digest it. How will you make your audience more tolerant, more inclusive, and more intelligent if you are going to stop everything?”
“Even though I am a part of CBFC but if you ask me, I honestly believe there shouldn’t be any CBFC. I am against any kind of boycotts and bans on the movies. I believe in free speech. I, in fact, believe in absolute free speech, to the extent, that I think even hate speech should be allowed,” he concluded.
Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam-starrer OMG 2 will soon release in cinemas this Friday (August 11). passed with 27 cuts with an A (Adults Only) certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film focuses on the importance of sex education among teenagers with a gripping narrative of a middle-class family led by Pankaj.
While promoting the film with the media, Pankaj shared his reaction to the film certification and revealed that he was surprised and to some extent disappointed with the rating. “When we got an A certificate, we got surprised. This is because while making a film, hume pata chal jaata hai ki A certificate milega ya nahi, like Gangs Of Wasseypur. When we were making it, we knew that it will get an Adults Only certificate. However, when we were making OMG 2, we didn’t think that it will get such a rating.” Sharing his disappointment further he said, “Iss film ko A milna, surprise tha humare liye. Thoda malaal hua ki jis age-group ko yeh film dekhni chaiye, 12-17 saal ke, woh nahi dekh payenge (For me it was a surprise. I was a bit disappointed, as the target age group of 12-17 years old won’t be able to see the film).”
