One of Bollywood’s hit filmmakers worked as Shah Rukh Khan’s costume designer in some of his biggest films.

Shah Rukh Khan enjoys a huge fan following. The actor started his journey with a commercially successful film Deewana and went on to give iconic movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dilwale Dhulhania Le Jaayenge, and more. But do you know that one of the actor’s close friends who is one of the hit Bollywood filmmakers now worked as a costume designer for him in 7 of his hit movies? 

The Bollywood filmmaker is also one of Shah Rukh Khan’s close friends and made his directorial debut with SRK’s film. Today he is a well-known, hit filmmaker and producer who has given some of the best movies to Hindi cinema. He is none other than Karan Johar. 

Yes, Karan Johar used to work as an assistant director before he made his directorial debut with Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji-starrer Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He used to design clothes for SRK in Dilwale Dhulhania Le Jaayenge. 

In 1997, the filmmaker along with Manish Malhotra handled Shah Rukh Khan’s film Dil To Pagal Hai’s costumes. He also designed clothes for the actor when he played the role of a villain in Mahesh Bhatt’s Duplicate. 

In the 2000 hit Mohabbatein, Karan Johar turned costume designer for Shah Rukh Khan while Manish Malhotra designed the clothes for Aishwarya Rai. Some other films in which he turned SRK’s costume designer include Om Shanti Om, Veer Zara, and Mai Hoon Naa. 

Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan share a strong bond. The duo first met at the sets of Karan Arjun and the filmmaker was awestruck by the actor’s personality. They have given many classics together. Karan Johar made his directorial debut with Shah Rukh Khan’s 1998 classic Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Later, the actor-filmmaker duo gave many blockbusters like Kabhi Khushi Khabhie Gham… (2001), Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006) and My Name Is Khan (2011) are some of those. 

Today Karan Johar is one of the richest filmmakers in Bollywood with a reported net worth of Rs 1740 crore. The filmmaker reportedly charges Rs 10-15 crore per film. He has also produced several films like Shershaah, Raazi, and more. 

Recently, Karan Johar made his directorial comeback with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani which turned out to be a blockbuster collecting over Rs 300 crore at the box office. The film starred Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt along with Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and Jaya Bachchan and garnered a positive response from the audience. 

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie Jawan which also stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi along with others in key roles. Helmed by Atlee, the film is scheduled to hit the theatres on September 7. 

Karan Johar on the other hand is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming production Yodha starring Sidharth Malhotra and Disha Patani. The movie is scheduled to hit the theatres on December 15.
