Gadar 2 box office collections have broken several records, giving Sunny Deol the biggest opening of his career.
Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 has brought about a tsunami at the box office. The film opened to massive numbers, giving Sunny Deol the biggest opening day of his career and also giving the Hindi film industry a huge shot in the arm. The film has not just shattered 2023 or post-pandemic opening day records but established itself in the top 10 of all-time highest opening days in Bollywood history.
Gadar 2 opened to a massive Rs 40.10 crore net collection in India, the second-highest for any Bollywood film post-pandemic and the seventh-highest ever in the history of Hindi cinema. Since 2020, only Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (which earned Rs 57 crore earlier this year) has done better numbers. The film is easily the highest-opening film in Sunny Deol’s storied career, eclipsing hits like Gadar and Yamla Pagla Deewana. Gadar 2 will be Sunny’s first solo hit in 22 years, the last being Gadar Ek Prem Katha, back in 2001.
The films Gadar 2’s opening day has easily beaten include Adipurush (Hindi version) and Brahmastra, both of which opened to Rs 36 crore, as well as blockbusters like Tiger Zinda Hai, Sanju, and Chennai Express. Given the favourable reviews, Gadar 2 is expected to grow further on Saturday and Sunday and should coast past the 100-crore mark in net collections by Sunday. In fact, in terms of worldwide gross, it should gross that number on Saturday itself.
If the trend holds, Gadar 2 is looking at a massive lifetime haul. A Rs 250-crore net India collection is not unthinkable and the film should eaily be looking at a global 400-crore plus figure. Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma, also stars Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur, and Manish Wadhwa. The first part, which released in 2001, was an all-time blockbuster, earning over Rs 100 crore worldwide.
