The Maharashtra government has given Shah Rukh Khan Y+ security after the actor allegedly received death threats following the box office success of Jawan and Pathaan.
Actor Shah Rukh Khan’s security cover has been increased after he sent a written complaint to the Maharashtra Police saying the he had recently received death threats. Shah Rukh has had the most successful year of his career so far with both his releases – Pathaan and Jawan – grossing over Rs 1000 crore each.
On Monday, news agency ANI reported that the Maharashtra government has increased the actor’s security cover to Y+ after he allegedly received death threats. The agency’s tweet quoted source from the Maharashtra Police as saying, “Shah Rukh Khan had given a written complaint to the state government that he had been receiving death threat calls after the films Pathan and Jawan.” The actor or his team have not made a statement on the development yet.
Pathaan was Shah Rukh’s comeback film after a four year hiatus that was preceded by a string of unsuccessful films. In 2023, the veteran actor shed his loverboy image and chose to return in big-budget action films instead. Pathaan was a runaway hit, breaking several earning records and closing out at Rs 1050 crore, at the time the second-highest-grossing Hindi film ever.
The records Pathaan set were eventually broken by his second release of the year – Jawan. The revenge drama has earned Rs 1100 crore, including a healthy Rs 60 crore net in dubbed versions, the highest for a Hindi film ever. Shah Rukh has another release pending in the year – Dunki, his first collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani.
Dunki, Hirani’s social drama on illegal immigration, also stars Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal, and is slated to be releasing in theatres ahead of Christmas this year. The film will clash with another big budget spectacle – Salaar – the Telugu pan-India film from KGF-fame Prasanth Neel, starring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles.
