A report has suggested that Nayanthara is not too pleased with Atlee for chopping her role in Jawan and giving more importance to Deepika Padukone in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer.
Nayanthara made a strong debut in Hindi films with Jawan, her first foray in Bollywood after years of success down south. And while Nayanthara was the film’s female lead, Deepika Padukone also made an impact with her special appearance. Now, a new report suggests that Nayanthara is upset with the film’s director Atlee for how he treated her role and seemingly gave more importance to Deepika.
Jawan stars Shah Rukh Khan in a double role as father and son. Nayanthara stars as a cop out to hunt them and is unknowingly romantically involved with the son. Deepika appears for a short while in a flashback sequence as the wife of the older Shah Rukh. A Hindustan Times report quoted a source close to Nayanthara as saying, “She has been very upset with Atlee because her role was chopped in the film. Also, Deepika’s (Padukone) character was elevated and Nayanthara’s part was significantly sidelined.”
The report quoted the source further adding that Nayanthara is upset that despite her being the female lead, the film essentially became a Deepika-SRK venture and she was sidelined. It suggests that she may not return to Bollywood for more films after this experience. “It was not a cameo at all. Jawan was almost made to look like an SRK-Deepika film. Nayanthara is the leading actor down south, and hence, she was not happy with the treatment of Jawan. And that can never well be the reason why we might not see her in a Bollywood project, at least not anytime soon,” added the source.
There were speculations whether that was the reason why Nayanthara did not attend any of the promotional events for Jawan, even in her hometown Chennai. She was also not physically present at the film’s success meet while Deepika was. However, that is because of Nayanthara’s famous no-promotion clause, which is present in all her film contracts.
Meanwhile, Jawan is continuing to create mayhem at the box office. In less than two weeks, the film has grossed Rs 900 crore worldwide and Rs 500 crore net in India alone. It’s Hindi version is steadily on its way to become the highest-grossing film in Hindi ever, a mark it is likely to reach next week.
