As per reports, Jaya Prada and her partners owned a cinema in Chennai, and they shut down the property after suffering major losses. However, they allegedly didn’t repay the ESI amount deducted from the employees’ salaries.

Veteran actress and politician Jaya Prada has been sentenced to six months in jail with a fine of Rs 5,000 in an old case by a Chennai court. As per media reports, Jaya and her two other partners Ram Kumar and Raja Babu have been found guilty in the same case.

Why Jaya Prada has been sentenced to jail?

A few years ago, Jaya and her partners owned a cinema hall in Chennai, but they suffered unbearable losses, so they shut down the place. The staff members who have worked in the movie theatre filed a case against the partners for not repaying the ESI amount that was deducted from their salaries.

Reportedly, The Labour Government Insurance Corporation filed a case against Jaya Prada and her associates at the Egmore Magistrate Court in Chennai. It also suggested that the veteran also admitted to the charges and promised to clear the long dues while also seeking dismissal of the case. However, the court refused her appeal and imposed a fine and imprisonment.
