Jawan advance bookings have crossed Rs 1.25 crore in the US two full weeks before the Shah Rukh Khan film is slated to release.
Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film, is still two weeks away from release, but is already breaking records at the box office. As per a trade insider, the film has already sold tickets worth over Rs 1 crore at the US box office 15 days ahead of release. This buzz in the overseas market is a reflection of how the film could do globally and many believe that Shah Rukh Khan has another mega opening day on his hands.
On Wednesday, trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan tweeted that Jawan’s advance bookings in the United States have crossed $150,000 (over Rs 1.25 crore) two weeks ahead of the film’s release on September 7. “#Jawan advance bookings are terrific in USA. Crosses $150K mark. Advance sales – $151,187; Locations – 367; Shows – 1607; Tickets – 9691,” read the tweet.
Advance bookings of Jawan opened in select overseas markets last week, almost three weeks before the film’s release, an unprecedented move for an Indian film. But given Shah Rukh’s popularity in territories like the US, UK, and Middle East, it is not a surprising move on the producers’ part.
Jawan, directed by Atlee, marks the Hindi debut of Nayanthara, and features Vijay Sethupathi as the villain. This, clubbed with Anirudh’s music, is set to make the film a draw in south as well, particularly in Tamil Nadu where Atlee holds a lot of sway. This is why Jawan is expected to do extremely for a Bollywood film in the dubbed versions. Many are already expecting a Rs 100-crore opening day for the film.
Manobala tweeted, “#ShahRukhKhan is all set to make history in Bollywood by becoming the first actor to have two ₹100 cr+ opening day after #Pathaan.” Pathaan, Shah Rukh’s previous film, had opened to Rs 107 crore globally on its first day and had crossed Rs 500 crore by the end of its five-day extended opening weekend.
Jawan, an action thriller, is releasing in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The advance booking sales have not begun in India yet and are expected to open sometime by the end of the month, a week before the release.
