Jawan’s box office collections have obliterated the records set by Pathaan and Gadar 2 in just four days.
It’s been five days since Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan hit the theatres. The film marks Shah Rukh’s second release of the year, a treat for the actor’s fans after four SRK-less years. His comeback film Pathaan broke several box office records in both the domestic and overseas markets, which was expected considering it was Shah Rukh’s first release since 2018. But then, Jawan released eight months later and unexpectedly, surpassed Pathaan’s feats and in the process, also dwarfed the collections of Gadar 2, the film that is also threatening to surpass Pathaan.
How Jawan has fared against Pathaan and Gadar 2
Pathaan was released on a Wednesday, a day before the Republic Day holiday, giving it a five-day extended opening weekend. The film began with a Rs 55 crore opening day (in Hindi alone) and increased it to Rs 68 crore the following day. It’s five-day weekend net was Rs 271 crore in Hindi and Rs 283 crore overall, the highest-ever in Bollywood history. Jawan released on Thursday on the occasion of Janmashtami, netting a record Rs 65.50 crore on the day and an unprecedented Rs 72 crore on Sunday. Despite having one day fewer than Pataan, the film managed Rs 252 crore net in Hindi and Rs 286 crore overall in its opening weekend, obliterating Pathaan’s record.
In between, Gadar 2 had taken a solid opening of Rs 40 crore, netting a more than impressive Rs 135 crore in its opening weekend. That Gadar 2’s figures look tiny in comparison (despite being in the all-time top 10) shows just how massive Shah Rukh Khan’s pull has been this year at the box office.

How Jawan is the clear winner down south
While Pathaan was a blockbuster in Hindi, its dubbed versions could not replicate the magic. Jawan has changed that, courtesy the popularity of its director Atlee and stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. Pathaan’s dubbed versions had netted just Rs 8 crore in its opening weekend and Rs 18 crore lifetime. In comparison, Jawan has already earned Rs 33 crore with the dubbed versions in its opening weekend itself.
Even after including the Hindi collections, Jawan has outdone Pathaan in the south. Through its six-week lifetime, Pathaan earned Rs 77 crore in Hindi and Rs 96 crore overall from the four southern states. In comparison, Jawan has already netted Rs 98 crore in all languages from these territories. It won’t be a stretch to believe that the film can easily bring over Rs 200 crore net earnings from south alone.

*Jawan had a four-day weekend and Pathaan had a five-day weekend
It’s crazy to think that it has only been four days since the release of Jawan as the film has already surpassed the lifetime collections of several big films like Brahmastra and Adipurush, and even hits such as Ponniyin Selvan 1 and War. The big test for the film will be its first Monday and second weekend. If it holds well on those days, then only sky is the limit for the Shah Rukh-starrer.
