Comedy threequel beats Kangana Ranaut’s Chandramukhi 2 with strong opening – Top Speed News

Fukrey 3 has registered a strong opening at the box office, doing better than the first two parts and also beating the other two releases of the day – Chandramukhi 2 and The Vaccine War.

It was a busy weekend at the box office in India as three major films across two languages released nationwide. Among them, comedy entertainer Fukrey 3 has emerged as the clear the winner with a strong opening for a film of that genre and scale. The Mrighdeep Lamba film has netted Rs 8.50 crore in India on its first day, even higher than Kangana Ranaut and Rgahva Lawrence’s awaited horror film Chandramukhi 2.

Fukrey 3, the third part of the successful franchise, stas Richa Chadha, Varun Sharma, Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh, and Pankaj Tripathi. The film earned Rs 8.50 crore net in India on Thursday and its expected to have an over Rs 11-crore worldwide gross for the day. The figure is higher than Fukrey Returns, which had earned Rs 8.10 crore on its opening day, back in 2017. It has also left behind the other two films released on the day – The Vaccine War and Chandramukhi 2.

Fukrey, which released in 2013, was a sleeper hit, grossing Rs 49 crore on a meagre Rs 8-crore budget. The sequel, which came in 2017, was an even bigger hit, grossing Rs 112 crore worldwide. Fukrey 3 has opened to good reviews and has the support of positive word of mouth, which means that it can easily cross Rs 30 crore in its extended opening weekend and make a run for the 100-crore lifetime figure.

Now it is not a question of if but when Fukrey 3 will enter the 100-crore club in terms of worldwide gross. When it does, it will join other small hits from this year like Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and Satyaprem Ki Katha, which crossed the 100-crore mark despite being slice-of-life entertainers of low or moderate budget. Fukrey 3 has the distinction of being without a star as well, making its achievement even more impressive.
