Akshay Kumar-starrer becomes eighth Bollywood film to collect Rs 100 crore in India in 2023 – Top Speed News

Before OMG 2, Pathaan, The Kerala Story, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Adipurush, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, and Gadar 2 have collected Rs 100 crore in India this year.

Starring Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva’s messenger in an extended cameo and headlined by Pankaj Tripathi as Lord Shiva’s staunch devotee, OMG 2 is going strong at the box office despite facing stiff competition from Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel’s action-packed sequel Gadar 2.

On its ninth day of release on Saturday, August 19, the film entered the Rs 100 crore club and became the eighth Bollywood film to cross the three-digit mark in India in 2023 after Pathaan, The Kerala Story, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Adipurush, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, and Gadar 2.

Sharing the official box office numbers, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “100 NOT OUT…#OMG2 speeds yet again…The *current trends* suggest, #OMG2 should comfortably cross ₹ 125 cr mark…Whether or not it reaches/crosses ₹ 150 cr will depend on how #DreamGirl2 fares…[Week 2] Fri 6.03 cr, Sat 10.53 cr. Total: ₹ 101.61 cr. #India biz. #Boxoffice”.

Directed by Amit Rai in his second directorial after the 2010 film Road To Sangam, OMG 2 revolves around a middle-class father raising awareness about a very sensitive yet crucial topic. It highlights the importance of sex education while actively calling out prevailing misinformation.

On seeing his film performing extremely well at the box office, Amit Rai told ANI, “This week movies have created history. We can tell ‘Long Live Cinema’ now. The footfall and collection at box office proves that if you make good movies, your audience will always praise you.” Apart from OMG 2 and Gadar 2, Rajinikanth’s Jailer also broke multiple box office records on its release on August 10.
