Starring Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva’s messenger and Pankaj Tripathi as Lord Shiva’s devotee, OMG 2 has emerged as a surprise hit owning to the positive word-of-mouth it has received since its release and its sincere attempt at bring the important issue of sex education in the forefront.
The satirical comedy collected Rs 79.47 crore in India in its first week days and as per the entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk.com, the film added another Rs 5.25 crore in its kitty on Thursday, taking the total seven-day earnings to Rs 84.72 crore. OMG 2 has already crossed Rs 100 crore worldwide.
OMG 2 has received A rating from the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) and its actors including Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Govind Namdev have lashed out at CBFC, sharing their disasppointment that the teengers, for whom the film has been made, are not being allowed to watch it.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar film clashed with the Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 at the box office, which has broken multiple records and collected Rs 283 crore at the domestic box office in its first week.The nostalgia factor of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and stardom of Sunny Deol has led to audiences thronging theatres in large numbers across India.
OMG 2, which is the spiritual sequel of the Umesh Shukla-directed hit film OMG – Oh My God! released in 2012, also features Yami Gautam, Pavan Raj Malhotra, Govind Namdev, Aarush Varma, Arun Govil, and Brijendra Kala among others in supporting roles. It is only the second directorial of Amit Rao, who helmed his first film Road To Sangam 13 years ago.
