The country is set to celebrate National Cinema Day this year with a big bang. While last year it was celebrated on September 23, this year it will be held on October 13. Popular cinema chains are slashing film ticket prices to celebrate this day. In an attempt to boost theatre attendance, National Cinema Day will be celebrated and movie-goers are buzzing with excitement. Movie tickets across the country will cost just Rs 99 per admission.

The event will see the participation of more than 4,000 cinema halls and chains like PVR, Inox, Cinepolis, Movie Time, and City Pride. Don’t believe us? Well, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) posted a tweet regarding the same on Twitter. The tweet read, “National Cinema Day is back on October 13th. Join us at over 4,000+ screens across India for an incredible cinematic experience, with movie tickets priced at just Rs 99. It’s the perfect day to enjoy your favourite films with friends and family.”

In an official statement, the MAI said, “This special occasion brings audiences of all ages together for a day of cinematic bliss, celebrating the incredible success of multiple films at the box office this year.” It further read that the day is a “heartfelt thank you” to all the movie-goers who contributed to the success and is an “open invitation to those who haven’t returned to their local cinema.”

After the Covid-19 pandemic, cinema halls suffered a huge loss. Last year, National Cinema Day kicked off globally and grabbed headlines as it slashed ticket prices to just Rs 75. Last year’s event saw 6.5 million people rush to the theatres and cinema halls near them to catch the movies on the big screen and relive the movie-watching experience. Shows began screening as early as 6 a.m.
