Steelbird Helmets company was established in 1963.
Steelbird, despite being a prominent helmet manufacturing brand, opted not to appoint any celebrity as a brand ambassador.
The inspiring success tales of numerous prominent Indian entrepreneurs motivate countless young business enthusiasts today. You’re likely familiar with Steelbird, a prominent name in the helmet industry. Thanks to its exceptional product quality, Steelbird has risen to become the top helmet company in Asia.
The remarkable journey of Steelbird’s owner mirrors the tremendous success of his brand. Rajeev Kapur, the Managing Director of Steelbird (established in 1963), renowned as the “Helmet King” in the nation, has painstakingly built a company valued at Rs 554 crore through sheer dedication and effort.
Rajeev Kapur’s entrepreneurial journey started in his early years. He would accompany his father to the factory right after school. During those visits, his father would share insights and explain the helmet manufacturing process within the factory. This routine of going to the factory persisted for a substantial duration.
Upon completing his schooling, Kapur actively engaged in factory work while simultaneously pursuing his college education. In media reports, he shared that he approached each task as a challenge, with his father guiding him to become an expert in the field.
Interestingly, Steelbird, despite being a prominent helmet manufacturing brand, opted not to appoint any celebrity as a brand ambassador. Rajeev Kapur’s perspective is that Steelbird has a rich 60-year history and has evolved into a well-known brand in its own right. Over the decades, Steelbird helmets have safeguarded countless generations, becoming a protective shield for many individuals, making it their preferred choice even today.
A remarkable aspect is that the individuals purchasing Steelbird helmets today often follow a family tradition, as their fathers and grandfathers had also donned Steelbird helmets at some point.
However, in 2002, a devastating incident shook Rajeev Kapur’s life. A massive fire engulfed the company’s Mayapuri unit. On that fateful day, he was set to export goods valued at Rs 4 crore, but everything was tragically reduced to ashes in the fire.
During that period, Rajeev Kapur also secured a loan of Rs 21 crore to facilitate the expansion of his company. However, even in the face of these daunting challenges, he didn’t waver and persisted in working tirelessly. The outcome of his dedication is evident today, as Steelbird Company continues to make consistent progress.
