Jaskaran quit the game when he was asked the Rs 7 crore question.
Jaskaran Singh went back home with Rs 1 crore after showing his immense knowledge for over two episodes.
Kaun Banega Crorepati, India’s beloved quiz show, continues to captivate the nation with its exhilarating mix of intellect and fortune. Contestants hailing from diverse backgrounds flock to the show’s stage, their dreams of striking it rich intertwined with their thirst for knowledge. As per the Income Tax Law, even the windfall of winning must bear the weight of taxation.
Under this legal framework, winners have to pay taxes on their prize money. Reports suggest that the Income Tax Department imposes a tax of approximately 30 per cent on the total prize amount, further burdened by an additional 4 per cent cess on the tax itself.
In the fifteenth season of the show, Jaskaran Singh etched his name into the annals of history as its first millionaire. His victory came with a grand prize of Rs 1 crore. Yet, in line with the taxation regulations outlined above, Jaskaran’s celebration came with the knowledge that a portion of his winnings would be earmarked for tax deductions. Sources indicate that, on his prize of Rs 1 crore, he could potentially face a tax liability of at least Rs 30 lakh.
Hailing from the quaint village of Khalra in Punjab, the 21-year-old Jaskaran Singh aspires to become an Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer. His remarkable journey on the show unfolded during the 17th episode of the season, where he left an indelible impression on the iconic host, Amitabh Bachchan, and the enthralled audience with his profound knowledge.
Unfortunately, his quest for riches and glory came to an end when he confronted the daunting 7 crore question: “According to the Padma Purana, which king had to live as a tiger for a hundred years due to a deer’s curse?” The multiple-choice options were: Kshemadhurti, Dharmadatta, Mitadhvaja, and Prabhanjana. To this formidable query, Jaskaran replied with humility, “Sir, I have not heard of them before.” With that, he made the heartfelt decision to exit the game.
