Sunny Deol’s action-packed sequel inches closer to Rs 300 crore in India – Top Speed News

Directed by Anil Sharma and headlined by Sunny Deol as Tara Singh, Gadar 2 has collected Rs 283 crore in India in its first week.

With Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma reprising their roles as Tara Singh, Sakeena, and Jeete aka Charanjeet Singh from Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, the sequel Gadar 2 has wreaked havoc at the box office in its first week with breaking record left, right, and centre.

Directed by Anil Sharma, who also helmed the first part, Gadar 2 has already earned Rs 261.35 crore in India within six days and as per the early estimates from Sacnilk, the film has added another 22 crore in its earnings on its seventh day, i.e. Thursday, August 18, taking the total seven-day collection to Rs 283.35 crore.

The Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer has also become the second biggest Hindi film of the year as it has crossed the lifetime earnings of Adah Sharma’s The Kerala Story, which collected Rs 239.05 crore (Hindi). Now, Gadar 2 is chasing the records set by Pathaan, which collected Rs 524.53 crore (Hindi) earlier this year.

In 2001, Gadar clashed with Aamir Khan’s Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India and both turned out to be blockbusters. This time too, the action-packed sequel released alongside another film, Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi’s satirical comedy OMG 2, which is the spiritual sequel of the 2012 hit OMG – Oh My God!.

The Amit Rai directorial argues strongly for the inclusion of sex education in the Indian schools and receieved extremely positive reviews from audiences and critics. Despite the Gadar 2 tsunami, OMG 2 has collected over Rs 75 crore at the domestic box office in its first week.
