Chandrabose also shared that his wife asked him about media people not callimg him after his National Award win as the lyricist was ‘flooded with messages’ after winning Oscar for writing RRR’s Naatu Naatu.
Lyricist Chandrabose, who works in the Telugu film industry, made India proud earlier this year when he won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for RRR’s Naatu Naatu, along with the composer MM Keeravani. After winning his first Oscar, Chandrabose has recently also won his first National Award for Best Lyrics for the track Dham Dham Dham for the 2021 Telugu film Konda Polam.
However, the lyricist is shocked with only a few people congratulating him for his National Award win, compared with the tonnes of messages he received for winning Oscar. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Chandrabose said, “After getting the Oscar, I was flooded with messages, and that’s not even our awards. And now that I have got the National Award, only a handful of people congratulated me. My wife in fact asked me, ‘Why are media people not calling you?’ May be they are tired of me (laughs) or there are several other Telugu people who have won this time, so the attention is divided now.”
When the 53-year-old was asked pick between winning a National Award and an Oscar with respect to its impact on his career, he stated, “National Award was an achievable dream for me, and that’s why I had worked really hard for it. But, Academy Awards was something beyond my imagination. It was an unattainable wish that I could not even think of. In fact, I didn’t even know that it was possible for a writer from India to get an Oscar.”
“This year has been very fruitful year for me. People in the industry now trust my sense of work. They are confident that I will give it my all and will do everything possible to deliver the best result. A nod by people from across the world have given them that assurance in my abilities and I am getting a lot of offers because of that”, he further added.
Chandrabose’s most recent work is Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, whose lyrics he has written in the Telugu language. The Atlee-directed actioner releases in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on September 7.
