Kartik Maas is one of the sacred months for Hindus, which begins after the month of Ashwin. It carries significance for the devotees of Lord Vishnu. During this month, people keep fasts and follow certain rituals which include offering prayers to Goddess Tulsi, Lord Vishnu, Lord Kartikeya and Lord Shiva. This year, Kartik Maas will start on October 29 and will conclude on November 27 with Kartik Purnima. Bathing, donating and fasting hold special significance during this month, apart from worshipping Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.
In the auspicious month of Kartik, Diwali, Karva Chauth, Chhath Puja and other festivals also take place, hence making it one of the most important months for Hindus. Renowned Deoghar-based astrologer Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal shared the importance of Kartik month and some rituals which must be done by Lord Vishnu devotees during this month to seek his blessings.
While interacting with Local18, the astrologer said that just as the month of Sawan is dear to Lord Shiva, similarly the month of Kartik is dear to Lord Vishnu. If people keep fast during this month, then their wishes will be fulfilled by Lord Vishnu, he added. According to folklore, in the month of Kartik, Lord Vishnu resided in the water in the form of a fish, therefore, it is believed that whoever takes a bath in the river during this month can attain salvation or Moksha in this life.
During this month, Nandkishore Mughal advised lord Vishnu bhakts to not consume non-veg dishes and must prohibit eating certain vegetables such as pumpkin, brinjal, onions and garlic. It can have harmful effects on your body. People must worship Lord Vishnu daily by lighting ghee lamps every evening at the place of worship in their house during Kartik Mass.
Goddess Tulsi also holds significance during the month of Kartik. You must provide water to the Tulsi plant in Kartik Maas to avoid any problems for yourselves and your family. It is also recommended to eat basil leaves on an empty stomach in the morning to cure all types of diseases. You must make donations in the month of Kartik like food, clothes, sesame, lamps and others. It will please Goddess Lakshmi and can help you in the longer term, added Pandit Nandkishore Mughal.
