Alia Bhatt’s next film Jigra will be directed by Vasan Bala. She will co-produce the film with her mentor Karan Johar.
On Tuesday morning, September 26, Alia Bhatt surprised her fans as she announced her next film titled Jigra. Directed by Vasan Bala of Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota fame, Alia is also co-producing the film under her banner Eternal Sunshine Productions, along with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
The National Award-winning actress shared the announcement video on her Instagram. The one minute clip, with haunting background score, begins with a quote from GK Chesterton, “The paradox of courage is that one must be a little careless of life in order to keep it.” In her voiceover, Alia then says that she will never let anything happen to her brother, whom she calls her “jigra”.
Along with the clip, Alia wrote, “Presenting #Jigra, directed by the extremely talented @vasanbala and produced by @dharmamovies & @eternalsunshineproduction. From debuting in a Dharma production to now producing a film with them, in many ways, it feels like coming full circle from where I started.”
“Every day is a different day… exciting, challenging (and a little scary)… not just as an actor but also as a producer as we bring this film to life, and I CANNOT wait to share more as we move forward. JIGRA – in cinemas on 27th September 2024”, she added. Alia had made her debut in Dharma Productions’ Student of the Year directed by Karan Johar himself in 2012.
Her fans shared their excitement in the comments section as one of them wrote, “Alia becoming a producer and doing collaboration with dharma from where she started as an actor. Girl is rising high and it feels so proud to see your growth as an actor, producer and an entrepreneur”, while another added, ‘The bgm, visuals, and you – wow! a true masterpiece on it’s way!”.
Produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Somen Mishra, and Alia Bhatt, and directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra will release in cinemas on September 27 next year.
