Karan Johar’s 25th anniversary year brings a brilliant success for the Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh starrer RRKPK
While the box office floods with the success of Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 and Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani races ahead with a total of Rs. 300 crores at the Global box office.
On Friday, Karan Johar took to his Instagram to share the news with a video. Its caption said, “To know that our prem kahaani has reached the corners of the world and hearts…feeling humbled & grateful and especially for all the love you have given to #RockyAurRaniKiiPremKahaani!!! Thank you (heart emojis).”
Just last week, the movie had the best hold in North America, where its second-weekend revenue of USD 1.64 million brought it a total of USD 4.72 million, a decline of less than 5% from the previous week. The Bollywood movie’s performance over the second weekend in North America is the sixth best of all time, a huge improvement from its placement outside the top 20 during the first weekend. With a combined gross of more than $8 million, the five movies listed above RARKPK are also the top five in the region. Over USD 7 million in revenue is anticipated for Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani in North America. With a second-weekend decline of barely 25%, Australia and the United Kingdom are just shy of earning a million of their respective currencies.
The numbers have multiplied substantially since the second week of the release, amounting to more than Rs. 300 crores. The announcement was well received by the fans in the global market too. One said, “Yes. Watched in Barcelona !!! So obsessed that I’ve become that maniac that goes around listening to Bollywood songs on high volume !”, while another said, “Watching in Aus this weekend with my mum – looking forward to it! Hope you enjoyed your time in Melbs – was great seeing you down under!” The movie was recently screened at the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne where Karan Johar celebrated his 25th year as a director.
